Project Description
Overview
The Ark Legacy Project (TALP) in Lagos, Nigeria, will be the largest church in the world, capable of holding congregations of over 150,000 worshipers, and 109,000 seated. The project is overseen by Bishop David O. Oyedepo, the founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide. Work on the site began in 2020 and foundations were laid in March 2021. In addition to the main bowl, the stadium sized church will also contain smaller spaces for teaching, performance and smaller congregations.
Program
WSDG has a proven track record with high-profile, stadium sized projects across the world. All WSDG offices are working closely with architect Gbenga Alalade, lead architect and project director, with drawings completed by The Covenant University department of Architecture. WSDG is delivering acoustic 3D modelling, isolation acoustics, and internal room acoustic predictions to ensure excellent intelligibility and coverage throughout the bowl. Additionally, WSDG is responsible for AV systems and theatrical technology design for the entire project, including one of largest LED 360 video screens (+7,000m²) in the world, as well as cutting-edge infrastructure for audio, video and streaming.
Design
The church is an ambitious project designed to host large congregations. The stadium-style bowl is fully roofed and will seat 109,000 people. An additional overflow area will accommodate another 50,000 worshippers, and the facility will also include dedicated spaces for youth, teens, and children’s churches. The highest possible speech intelligibility is required, and state-of-the-art acoustic modelling will be used to ensure the entire congregation will hear every word and be able to see clearly from every seat in the church. The auditorium will feature a huge custom designed circular video wall and theatrical, stadium style lighting. Each of the additional spaces located within the stadium premises will require acoustical treatment, isolation services, and AV systems infrastructure in order to work in-sync with the content created at the main bowl.
The church is currently under construction and WSDG continues to collaborate with all active partners and stakeholders to ensure a speedy and successful conclusion to this highly anticipated house of worship.
