Project Description

Overview

ABRIL is the private recording studio of composer/engineer Mateo Rodo, a music producer and multi-instrumentalist who has worked with many major artists in Argentina including Abel Pintos, Soledad, Ruggero, Silvestre y la Naranja, and 1915. He also built a successful portfolio as a film/tv composer for Sony and Netflix. His studio is a collaboration between WSDG and local architectural firm Ohio Estudio.

Program

Rodo desired an inspiring creative space where the architecture, ergonomic design, and technology of the rooms would work in concert to facilitate seamless, free-flowing creativity and easy, efficient recording. The WSDG design team developed a full studio design and A/V systems integration package with this in mind for a compact, but full-featured two room studio that will serve as Rodo’s inspiring musical base of operations.

Design

ABRIL is located in a vintage building located in one of the historic neighborhoods of northern Buenos Aires. Rodo’s inspiration for the space was directly drawn from his time spent performing and recording in other well-known WSDG-design studios. When completed, ABRIL will consist of a 16×10 ft control room and a 10×11 ft live room, which communicate both through an acoustic sliding glass door, and a Sound Lock. REDIacoustics NIRO process was utilized to acoustically optimize the room geometry and listening positions of the control room. A comprehensive A/V systems package will provide Rodo with everything he needs to write, record, and mix in multiple formats for his work.

In terms of interior design and lighting, Rodo sought a very specific aesthetic vibe – clean, modern, and with ample natural lighting. This bright, natural look serves to keep him connected to nature and gives the studio an inspiring vibe so it can serve as an incubator for his various musical projects. The entire studio will utilize natural wood treatments and a warm green and white color scheme hiding a small amount of accent lights.

Musician, Composer

I’ve been familiar with recording studios designed by WSDG since the very beginning of my career—from the facilities at Berklee College of Music and ORT School, where I studied, to the incredible studios like “El Faro House,” “Estudio 13,” and “0618,” where I produced some of my most ambitious records.

These recording studios set a very high standard in my experience, so whenever I have the opportunity, I don’t hesitate to choose a WSDG-designed studio for a project. This is due to several factors. First, the aesthetics: the tasteful design makes it easy to spend long hours in the studio without ever feeling the need to step outside. Just as importantly, every design decision has a sonic justification. The attention to detail when it comes to acoustics is exceptional—both the control rooms and live rooms sound spectacular in every WSDG studio I’ve worked in. And last but not least, the AV implementation is always very thoughtful and executed to the highest standards.

After many years working in WSDG studios around the world, I now have the privilege of owning a personal recording studio designed by them—and their work has completely blown me away. I can’t wait to collaborate with WSDG again.
