Project Description

Overview

The Nightfly is a commercial recording studio located on the top floor of a repurposed factory building in the neighborhood of Bushwick, Brooklyn. The studio was founded by partners and Brooklyn music scene veterans Garry Atturio, Ian Hersey, and Matthew Sheiner with the vision of creating an accessible and affordable recording environment for the city’s flourishing ecosystem of independent musicians.

Program

The WSDG team created a full studio design package, including facility master planning, acoustic isolation, internal room acoustics, and A/V consulting.

Design

The studio’s design takes full advantage of its location by offering a panoramic view of the surrounding Brooklyn cityscape. The 1500ft2 facility features a pair of control rooms, two ISO booths, a drum booth, sound lock, and lounge. Its design utilizes an old-school slat wood and pegboard aesthetic, harkening back to the earliest WSDG studios.

Prioritizing sightlines between the performers and engineering staff, Studio A is configured for live tracking and mixing and has an API 2448 Console, Ex Machina Quasar Monitors, Neumann KH750 Subwoofer, and a Studer Tape Machine.

Studio B offers a more intimate and focused production environment with its own ISO booth. The Control Room features Ex Machina Pulsar Monitors and a collection of vintage and modern synthesizers for a hands-on creative experience.
