Project Description

Overview

Established in 1885, Arizona State University (ASU) is one of the largest public universities by enrollment in the U.S, organized into 17 colleges featuring more than 170 cross-discipline centers and institutes and nearly 140,000 students attending classes across its 4 metro campuses and online.  In 2019 ASU decided to dramatically upgrade their Music Production and Recording Arts program with the addition of a two-story state-of-the-art recording studio complex, and engaged the services of WSDG to design it.

Program

The recording studio is located in ASU’s brand new Herberger Institute of Design & Arts, a sixteen story residential and academic building.  The building was designed by Arizona-based architectural firm Studio Ma and its first three floors are dedicated to the visual arts, design, fashion, and popular music programs.

Design

The Popular Music Program inhabits the 2nd and 3rd floors of this new ground-up building.  The lower level boasts a fully isolated 2,800 SF recording suite with two separate studios.  Each with its own Control Room, Live Room and Iso booths. And a large
