Clap Studios completes ‘world-class’ dubbing theatre build

Clap Studios in Medellin, Colombia has revealed that its new 7.1 Dolby-certified dubbing theatre is now open

The multi-faceted audio recording/mixing service was set up in 2011, but it was last year that Clap partners Gabriel Jaime Perez (manager/producer), Daniel Vasquez (head of production) and Daniel Jaramillo (sound engineer/supervisor) decided to give the facility a state-of-the-art upgrade, turning to WSDG Latin in order to meet their clients’ high-level acoustic and aesthetic requirements.

Situated within the Audiovisual Center in Colombia’s second largest city, which is reportedly establishing itself as a leader in the country’s film, TV and audio production/post production industry, Clap Studios is equipped with JBL 7.1 cinema loudspeakers, Pro Tools HD and a Dolby Digital Film Processing Unit. The job was fully supervised, evaluated, and certified by Dolby representatives from Mexico and Los Angeles.

The complex includes a 5.1 surround mixing studio for TV, a Foley studio, an ADR/VO dubbing room, editing suites, and a full range of sound design, mixing recording and support services. A Dolby Atmos system is projected for future installation.

The new WSDG 600 sq ft dubbing theatre was built to provide local (and international) film and video-makers with a world-class facility for mixing and screening. The desk is set on a raised, highly polished wooden platform before a handsome, wooden rear wall diffuser, WSDG says. The walls and 14’ high ceiling have also been treated with fabric-covered absorptive elements to ensure ‘flawless’ acoustics for the JBL speaker system.

London-based sound engineer/supervisor Jaramillo designed the audio/visual integration program, and head of production Vasquez served as general project director. WSDG partner/art director Silvia Molho also collaborated with WSDG Latin partner Renato Cipriano to create the theater’s interior and lighting design plan.

“We are fortunate to have attracted projects with a number of major artists,” said Perez. “Talent of this calibre expects an extremely sophisticated listening environment, first-tier technology and a chic, contemporary interior. WSDG’s design and acoustic expertise has provided us with a dubbing theatre that looks, sounds and functions at world-class standards. Now we are positioned to serve the most discerning clients, and we look forward to helping raise Medellin’s reputation for creativity and professionalism within the international film and TV production community.”
