Two exceptional projects by WSDG have been shortlisted for the prestigious Mondo-DR Awards 2025, an international program designed to celebrate the best installation projects from around the world.

For the first time, the awards have introduced a new voting model that combines public and expert input – with 70% of the final score based on public votes and 30% from a professional jury. This is a fantastic opportunity for the wider industry to help recognize standout achievements, and we’d be honored to have your support.

Kuppel Basel – Multipurpose Venue category

Located in Basel, Switzerland, Kuppel Basel is a state-of-the-art cultural venue encompassing a dome-shaped concert hall, underground club, rehearsal spaces, and communal areas. WSDG was responsible for the venue’s room acoustics, electro-acoustics, and isolation design – a critical requirement given the site’s proximity to residential zones and Switzerland’s stringent noise regulations.

To achieve exceptional isolation, WSDG developed a dual-shell acoustic structure, encasing a solid concrete venue within a secondary, decoupled “cheese dome” shell. This groundbreaking approach allows high-energy performances at up to 100 dBA without disturbing the surrounding community.

Kuppel Basel is the result of a close collaboration between client Stiftung Kuppel, architect Vécsey Schmidt Architekt:innen, AV integrator Auviso, and lighting designer Konnex.

EBL Elefantehuus – Performance Venue category

In Liestal, Switzerland, a historic generator hall has been transformed into the EBL Elefantehuus, a high-performance cultural venue combining heritage preservation with advanced AV technology. Just 20 meters from a hospital, the site demanded zero sound leakage. WSDG met this challenge with a “room-in-room” solution, installing a fully decoupled acoustic shell and custom treatments including a Helmholtz resonator and magnesite-bonded wool-wood panels.

The space is outfitted with a hybrid sound system featuring L-Acoustics PA and Fohhn beam-steering speakers, and supports a wide range of events from live concerts to corporate presentations. The project was completed in partnership with client EBL, Kulturhotel Guggenheim, Otto Partner Architekten, Kilchenmann AG (AV integration), and Huebscher Gestaltet GmbH (lighting design).
