Project Description

Overview
Initially built in 1908, the Orpheum has been a film-lovers destination and community center in the Hudson River Valley for more than a century. The building was purchased by not-for-profit organization Upstate Films in 2021 with the aim of revitalizing it and bringing film and cultural programming back to the area. The Mark – named in honor of Mark Braunstein, a beloved member of the mid-Hudson Valley arts community and generous philanthropist – will be the theater’s new state-of-the-art screening room and has been designed by WSDG.

Program
The WSDG Design Team extensively overhauled the historic theater to meet the needs of the modern moviegoing experience. This included meticulously designed acoustics and A/V systems designed to support immersive audio via Dolby Atmos, an extensive and flexible lighting system, and top-of-the-line seating for a premium viewing experience.
