Project Description
Overview
Initially built in 1955, Temple Beth Am has served as a cultural hub for the Jewish population of South Miami-Dade county for generations. Seeing a need to expand its facilities to encompass a diverse range of religious, educational, and community needs, Temple Beth Am expanded into a multi-building complex – The Janet z”l and Richard Yulman Campus – that includes a school, event halls, athletic facilities, and dining areas. WSDG was initially brought on as the acoustic consultant for Temple Beth Am’s new school, before ultimately being asked to design the interiors, acoustics and A/V systems for the entirety of the second phase of construction on the rapidly growing complex in a multidisciplinary project. WSDG collaborated with architects Perkins & Will on Phase 1 of the project, and Corwil Architects on Phase 2.
Program
The WSDG Team was tasked with a complete interiors and systems design package for the entire campus that included traditional interior design, technical interior design, lighting design, isolation and internal room acoustics, A/V systems design and integration, and theatrical lighting making it a truly multi-disciplinary project.
Design
The complex, which also includes the Rambam Day School, Youth Engagement Religious School, The Hub performance art venue, multi-purpose function room, youth lounges, library, cafe, dining areas, and athletic center, is united in a contemporary design aesthetic that reflects the welcoming atmosphere of the campus as well as the bustling activity that takes place within. As with all WSDG projects, the technical interior design of the entire campus works seamlessly with the acoustic and A/V elements for perfectly controllable sound and video systems suited to each space without any compromise in aesthetic beauty.
The Hub performance art venue features a modular design making it easily customizable to a wide variety of events and internal uses including religious ceremonies, musical and theater performances, film screenings, and educational gatherings. The Hub also features beautiful stained glass designs in its window displays.
