Project Description

Overview

A luxury apartment building /100-room hotel, El Aleph anchors the redevelopment of Puerto Madero, Buenos Aires’ former industrial port district. Adding new life and excitement to the city’s waterfront area, this ambitious project represents the final chapter of the Faena Arts and Technology District’s transformation. Comprised of three mixed-use residential schemes, the development creates a dynamic congregation of elegant waterside community, commerce, and arts appreciation.

Program

When leading international architecture/integrated design firm Foster + Partners was engaged to create a new waterside community, it focused on including generous civic space at its heart to promote the enjoyment of art and the enhancement of culture. Drawing on a scheme of courtyards and open terraces, the complex incorporates outdoor living as a natural element of sophisticated city life. WSDG was retained to perform an extensive series of acoustic measurements, structural and sound isolation tests and to provide recommendations for systems design and integration.

Design

A floating island clubhouse with swimming pool and spa, a covered market square with dockside frontage, and a handsomely landscaped pedestrian walk, all enlivened by galleries, shops and cafes, are integrated within and adjoining the residential lobbies. These lively public spaces greatly enhance the charm of the design, however, they also produce the intrusive sounds of human interaction. WSDG proposed isolation design parameters to allow levels of 105 dbA with no audible impact at residences immediately adjacent to the space.
