Project Description

Overview

The Bearsville Theater is an 18,000 square foot performing arts center that plays host to a variety of live musical performances and theatrical productions every year. Envisioned by the late Albert Grossman – personal manager to Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Peter, Paul and others – the venue was designed by John Storyk during the 1970’s with a warm, welcoming atmosphere and beautiful, wood-appointed design features including its signature spiral staircase. The theater consists of an existing early 20th century barn that was extensively renovated as well as additional spaces both surrounding the original barn and even UNDER the barn, connected with an amazingly complex double spiral staircase.

In recent years, the building has been substantially upgraded by entrepreneur Lizzie Vann and is now operated by Pete Shapiro’s DayGlo Presents [The Capitol Theatre, Brooklyn Bowl, etc.]

The venue consists of a 500-seat theatre, associated dressing rooms and support spaces for the performers, as well as additional lounge and bar areas.
