Project Description

Overview

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is the largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates. It has a capacity over 40,000 and is a key place of worship for daily prayers. In addition to its faith-based services, the mosque also serves as a place of learning with a cultural education center and a large library.

Program

The WSDG Design Team was tasked with room acoustics and sound system planning for the mosque.

Design

The team did a thorough analysis of the space – specifically measuring the acoustic effects of ornamental structures, the Qibla wall designs, and traditional carpeting as low-frequency absorption. The sound system was designed to accommodate the large congregations within the main hall, female prayer hall, entry way, and several small courtyards.
