Project Description

Overview

The Quisisana Resort is a unique vacation experience located on Lake Kezar in Lovell, Maine. Originally a high-end residential property built in the early 20th century, Quisisana has since evolved into a popular destination hotel that is renowned for its robust performing arts programming, including musical theater, chamber music, and opera. Since 1984, Quisisana has been owned by the Orans family, who have carried on its legacy, introducing new generations to its singular mix of relaxing natural surroundings, comfortable accommodations, exquisite dining, and high-quality musical entertainment.

Program

The WSDG team was tasked with internal room acoustics and electroacoustic design for Quisisana’s Music Hall – the resort’s primary performance space. The project was done as part of a larger overhaul of the structure, lead by David Hart of Fisher Street Design, to better accommodate the resort’s expanding program of musical and theatrical performances.

Design

The Quisisana Music Hall renovation was centered around raising the roof of the central structure to provide a larger, more versatile performance space. The WSDG team designed a variable acoustic treatment plan and electroacoustic system that can accommodate various types of musical and theatrical performances, featuring two separate stage configurations for maximum flexibility. The WSDG team also worked alongside d&b audiotechnik and The Production Source when making electroacoustic recommendations for the new sound system.
