Project Description

Overview

Hamad International Airport is the sole international airport in the state of Qatar, and the home of Qatar’s flag carrier airline, Qatar Airways. Located south of its capital, Doha, it replaced the nearby Doha International Airport as Qatar’s principal airport. The airport is named after the previous Emir of Qatar, Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and opened in 2014.

Program

The WSDG team was tasked with electoacoustics for the facility’s paging, voice alarm, and information systems which included acoustical modeling as well as systems design.

Design

Electroacoustic studies were performed to determine the optimum solution for the paging and information system which is also serving as the voice alarm system. The system is based on Renkus-Heinz FA136 6” full-range ceiling loudspeakers and IC16 digitally controlled line arrays as well as Atlas Sound Ceiling speakers FA 136. The loudspeaker types, their location and orientation as well as delays and other settings were fully studied in the simulation to ensure the functionality of the voice alarm and information applications. The simulations match and surpass the required target values.
