In 1999 the Walters Storyk Design Group created two state-of-the-art video editing suites for Working Pictures. The independent, Avid-based digital video production, editing and graphic design company was then located in Albany’s Cotton Hill Studios, a complex WSDG originally designed in 1994. The success of those initial collaborations led to Working Pictures, a 4,400 sq. ft. facility completed in 2005.
There are four digital video editing and graphic design studios equipped with Avid Symphonies (2), as well as Mac and PC 2D & 3D graphic workstations. A wide range of cutting-edge software including Adobe After Effects, Boris Red , Zaxworks 3D and Cinelook empower the in-house editorial/graphic design team to meet any creative challenge. An emphasis on room integration, provides the new complex with the capability of moving media digitally at high speed between workstations and combining multiple room assets for expanded creative options.
“Marty Bohunicky found a particularly interesting building for his new Working Pictures studio,” John Storyk says. “Thanks to a number of 16 ft. high, floor-to-ceiling windows, we had a terrific opportunity to showcase the heavily wooded area surrounding the structure. We kept the large open upstairs loft as a creative “bull pen,” and incorporated the building’s unusual triangular-shaped rooms to break the traditional ‘cookie-cutter editing suite mold, for more creatively stimulating environments.”
Located on the outskirts of Albany, Working Pictures’ one-of-a-kind building is distinguished by a handsome steel roof which overhangs the building and shades the many windows. WSDG partner/interior designer Beth Walters engaged a number of imaginative finishing elements including a dramatic copper reception desk, glass blocks, rubber flooring and exposed brick to detail the artistic surroundings.
“Working Pictures was created to provide the full range of video production and post-production services, from location scouting thru casting shooting, directing, editing, 2D and 3D animation, and sophisticated graphics,” Bohunicky says. “We are a complete turn-key operation, and our new Walters-Storyk designed building is already proving itself a plus factor in our creative projects.”
