Lessons from Electric Lady Studios. Architecture and Acoustics of Recording Studios. Analysis to Prediction to Realization.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY
14:00 to 17:00
WSDG is proud to announce that Founding Partner John Storyk will present a lecture on the “Architecture and Acoustics of Recording Studios.” The presentation will delve into the evolution of studio design, from traditional, large-scale facilities to today’s more powerful and flexible audio content creation environments.
Storyk, an architect and acoustician with a company portfolio of over 4,500 completed projects worldwide, will draw on his extensive experience, which began with his design of Jimi Hendrix’s iconic Electric Lady Studios in 1969. The lecture will explore the ongoing changes in business models and studio configurations, emphasizing that despite technological advancements, the need for pristine acoustics remains paramount. Storyk will highlight how these “next generation” rooms still rely on the ability of the architect and acoustician to “tune” the environment to maximize its acoustic potential.
The presentation is particularly relevant to students and professionals in fields such as architecture, engineering, and the arts, as it showcases WSDG’s expertise in designing spaces for diverse applications. Storyk’s work spans numerous verticals, from broadcast facilities and educational complexes to private studios for world-renowned artists and producers. Attendees will gain insights into the critical role of acoustic design in creating effective and emotionally resonant listening environments.
