Room Acoustics – Listen to the music, not the room
The purpose of room acoustics is to achieve the most accurate reproduction of the actual music content with the existing equipment. In this presentation, acoustician Dirk Noy explained the key concepts of room acoustics, such as sound reflection, absorption and diffusion. The terms reverberation time and standing waves were also explained. The presentation aimed to convey how these principles interact to create an optimal room acoustic environment. In addition to the physical principles, Dirk Noy also presented various case studies and current trends.

Immersive Audio – Total immersion instead of simply listening
3D immersive audio – achieving an all-enveloping spatial sound – is a highly popular subject in room and electroacoustics. In this presentation, acoustician Dirk Noy provided insights into the practical and theoretical background and an overview of technological approaches such as Auro3D and Dolby Atmos. Terms such as Head-Related Transfer Function (HRTF) and object- based audio were introduced and explained in context. In addition to the basics, Dirk Noy also presented various case studies and current trends.
