Overview
Al Maktoum International Airport, also known as Dubai World Central, is an international airport in Jebel Ali, 37 km (23 mi) southwest of Dubai, United Arab Emirates that is currently under construction and soon to be the largest airport in the world. When fully completed, it will cover an area of 35,000 acres and have a projected annual capacity between 160 million and 260 million passengers. When completed, the airport will contain transport modes, logistics, and value-added services, including manufacturing and assembly in a single free economic zone. The first section opened on June 27, 2010.
Program
The WSDG team was brought on to perform a peer review of the acoustic performance of the design. Upon completing the review, the team constructed their own acoustical simulations to recommend some changes for improved acoustical performance.
Design
The design and construction process of the airport are still underway, with a projected completion date of 2027.
