In this NAMM presentation John Storyk will revisit his view of the recording industry’s evolution from two-inch tape machines to state-of-the art digital recorders and, more recently, laptop recording as “cutting-edge” continues to be redefined by newer, more compact technology. While keeping up with this ever-changing technology, he has never abandoned acoustic basics or the importance of vibe and aesthetics in creating audio production environments. Storyk, who describes his work as the nexus of architecture, acoustics and technology will share war stories, innovation inspirations, limited space optimization brainstorms AND illustrate the solution to a most unusual challenge; “How can you turn a 500 sq. ft. control room into a 500 sq. ft. Live Room and then turn it back into a C.R. whenever necessary?” He’ll also lead a conversation on board-based ‘Future-Casting’ predictions.
