Project Description

Overview

Initially opened in 1969, the Kulturpalast Dresden is one of the largest multi-purpose event halls in Dresden, Germany. It was designed and built by modernist architect Wolfgang Hänsch and was originally used for concerts, dances, business conferences, and other events. In 2008, the hall was repurposed as a concert hall for the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra.

Program

The WSDG design team was tasked with room and electroacoustic consulting.

Design

In 2009, the Berlin architecture firm gmp general planning company won the competition of 26 bidders, where WSDG supported the winning design in terms of acoustics.

The winning design showed a hall in typical vineyard shape. Our office was too small to work as a responsible acoustician in the following phases of design and thus the internationally active office Peutz (of Dr. Vercammen and Margriet Lautenbach MA) were selected for the detailed acoustic design work. WSDG worked for seven years as an acoustic consultant to the client and participated in all important design steps of the two offices Peutz and Daberto. Close contact and professional cooperation always existed with the gmp office in Berlin.

The Munich office Daberto & Kollegen was engaged for stage technology, stage lighting and electroacoustic planning.
