Project Description

Overview

Viacom International/EUE/Screen Gems Studios recently completed construction on an 88,000 sq. ft. studio complex in Miami.  With two 15,000 sq. ft. sound stages, utilizing plug-and-play fly-pack arrays, 40,000 sq. ft. of production office and support areas, multiple AVID editing suites, Pro Tools audio and graphic design suites and a mobile production vehicle.  The complex represents one of Florida’s most sophisticated new production facilities.  Having worked with WSDG-Walters-Storyk Design Group on previous EUE assignments, including the NYC Rachel Ray Studio; Mitchell Brill, former EUE Screen Gems, head of strategic corporate development services returned to WSDG for an intensive feasibility study, cost/benefit analysis, and AV Systems design for the Miami Complex

Program

WSDG partner/PM Joshua Morris reports the firm’s consulting services were expanded to assist in bid acquisitions and installer interviews. “This was a total gut renovation in Miami, and the completed facility is ideal for a wide range of productions including daily scripted series, music specials, game shows and short-form content for mobile and digital platforms.  Our systems designer, Judy Elliot-Brown worked hard to get the most bang for the buck out of the system – and we think it shows” Morris said.

Design

Built by the Miami Omni Community Redevelopment Agency in a public-private partnership with EUE/Screen Gems Studios, Viacom International Studios are managed under a long-term contract negotiated by DMS.  The new production hub serves its global entertainment networks, including Nickelodeon, MTV and Comedy Central,” Brill reports.  “The entire complex is a wired, interactive fiber environment, with two-way connectivity to all other Viacom hubs. It is designed for productions of all sizes, including television series, motion pictures, music programming and live experiential events.
