Medellin, the second largest city in Colombia, is committed to establishing itself as a leader in that country’s film, TV and audio production/post production industry. In 2011 three of the countries most successful experts in the field joined together to create Clap Studios, a state-of-the-art Dolby® dubbing theater. To insure the highest level aesthetic and technical design, partners Gabriel Jaime Perez, Daniel Vasquez and Daniel Jaramillo, engaged the services of WSDG Latin.
Situated within the Medellin Audiovisual Center, Clap Studios is equipped with JBL 7.1 Cinema loudspeakers, Pro Tools HD, and a Dolby® Digital Film Processing Unit. The installation was fully supervised, evaluated, and certified by Dolby representatives from Mexico and Los Angeles. The complex includes a 5.1 Surround mixing studio for TV, a Foley studio, an ADR/VO dubbing room, editing suites, and a full range of sound design, mixing recording and support services. A Dolby Atmos® system is projected for installation later in the year. The goal of this facility is to provide local (and international) filmmakers with a convenient, affordable world-class professional facility for sound post-production.
The Clap Studio Dubbing Theater is a 600 sq. ft. room with 14 ft. ceiling. Designed around a (2) tiered mixing/screening program, the mixing desk is set upon a raised, highly polished wooden platform before a handsome, highly effective, wooden rear wall diffuser. The walls and ceiling have been treated with fabric-covered absorptive elements to further tune the theater to acoustic perfection. Side and overhead lighting compliment the JBL 7.1 Cinema loudspeaker system, to fine-tune an ideal screening / mixing environment. The audio/visual integration was designed by London-based sound engineer/supervisor Daniel Jaramillo. WSDG Partner/Art Director Silvia Molho worked in collaboration with WSDG Brazil partner Renato Cipriano to supervised the overall technical design of the film mixing room.
